iPad, iPhone and iPod Accessories and Apps

iDevice Strategies

iPad, iPhone and iPod accessories and apps for persons with disabilities. iDevices such as Apple's iPad, iPad mini, iPhone and iPod touch are the hottest consumer technology products on the market today. While thousands of applications have been written for nearly every conceivable situation, persons with disabilities have fewer opportunities than most to enjoy the newest in iDevice computing. With that in mind, AbleNet is committed to introducing—and continuing to grow—its line of iDevice access products.

  1. What iDevice do you do want to control?
  2. What app or function do you want to control?
  3. How are you going to access the iDevice - direct or external switch(es)?
  4. Does the iDevice and/or external switches need to be mounted?
  5. Do you need accessories for sound output, recording, or protection while on the go?

Scan A Word
Scan-A-Word is a single switch letter matching and spelling activity. A word (which may or may not be accompanied by a picture) appears on the screen. The first time it appears, a changing letter display appears below the first letter, and the student is encouraged to hit their switch when the matching letter appears. If the student selects the wrong letter, they start again. Once this task is completed, the word is repeated auditorily (or as a picture if one has been selected) and this time the student needs to select the correct letters to spell the word. Letters are consistently referred to by their letter names. Activity requires good auditory memory and isn’t traditional scanning skills as the target constantly changes.
